Our 2018 Devon Haven Review. An early Summer break at Haven Devon Cliffs was just what i needed! I booked a Monday – Friday Deluxe Caravan on the website during term time for a reasonable £250.00 which included the fun passes, towels and bed linen. We packed up Monday morning and left about 12:30 to arrive for 3pm check-in. Upon arrival, I left the kids playing in one of the play-areas with the other half while i went to check in. I was surprised to have to join a queue of about 500 people trailing all the way through the amusements area but luckily a member of staff came along and pulled 3'oclock checkins into another queue otherwise i would have been waiting a long time! Keys and passes collected, time to go and find the caravan!
This year we had the deluxe 3 bed caravan at “32 Beech Walk”. The caravan was really nice, Clean & tidy and was fully equiped with everything we needed for the week. The best thing about being on Beech Walk was the fact it was about steps to South Beach Playground and Beach and the view from the windows was amazing! The kids picked their beds (although they chopped and changed through the week) and we unpacked and went for a walk to the beach.
As always, Haven Devon Cliffs was clean, the grass was cut and fresh and everything had been well looked after. The “Sandy Bay” beach was quiet, a few dog walkers about and a couple of families with children enjoying the sea.
We used the caravan facilities to make meals most nights, eating out at Haven is very costly when there is 5 of you there so it's worth doing a grocery shop and taking simple things like eggs, bacon, sausages etc to cook during your holiday.
On Wednesday, I took a short drive off the site to Littleham Fish Bar to get fish and chips. It was a nice treat and fish and chips were lovely, highly recommend the curry sauce too but it isn't a cheap meal, It cost over £25 to feed us all.
Now for some Savvy Tips to help you save a few quid:
- Find the best deal by searching the Haven site and looking at different weeks to see which week is the cheapest. If your not planning on spending too much time in the caravan then a standard caravan is perfect for you.
- Cheeky Tip! I saved £20 by signing up to Health Care Discounts and clicking through to Haven. This credited me £20 to my bill at the checkout. No, I don't work for the any Health Care company but they don't verify you so it's worth doing.
- Do a grocery shop before you leave. There is a Tesco store in Exmouth, You could save time by putting the order through for click and collect before you leave and collect it on the way – Your chilled items will stay fresher if you are travelling to the site from a distance. There is a shop onsite which is actually quite reasonable on a lot of basic items like bread and milk so don't worry if you forget something simple.
